Cookie Policy
Updated
This policy covers the website byecut.com, run by Thinkbyte. The ByeCut app has its own Privacy Policy.
The short version
- We use one analytics tool, PostHog, with its data stored in the EU.
- Analytics cookies are only set if you click Accept. Until you answer, nothing is tracked.
- If you decline, we only count visits anonymously, without storing anything on your device.
- No advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking, and we never sell data.
What we measure, and why
With your consent, PostHog records which pages you visit, how far you scroll, which buttons you click (for example the App Store link) and the values you try in the editing-time calculator, along with your browser, device type, approximate location derived from your IP address, and the page that referred you. We use it to learn which pages help people and what to improve. We never record what you type into forms.
The legal basis is your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and the ePrivacy rules on storing information on your device). You can withdraw it at any time, as easily as you gave it.
If you decline
PostHog switches to cookieless mode. It stores nothing on your device, and instead counts visits with an anonymous hash that PostHog computes on its servers and rotates daily, so you can't be recognised across days. This tells us how many people visit without identifying anyone. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as declining automatically.
Cookies and storage we use
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| theme | Local storage | Remembers whether you picked the light or dark theme. | Until you clear it | Strictly necessary |
| __ph_opt_in_out_<token> | Local storage | Remembers your answer to the cookie banner, so we don't ask again. | Until you clear it | Strictly necessary |
| ph_<token>_posthog and other ph_* keys | First-party cookie, local and session storage | A random ID and session information, so PostHog can tell visits and pages apart. Only set after you click Accept. | Up to 1 year | Analytics (consent) |
Fonts are served from byecut.com itself, so loading a page doesn't contact Google or any other font service.
Who receives the data
PostHog Inc. processes analytics data for us under a data processing agreement, and stores it in its EU region (Frankfurt, Germany). Requests go through byecut.com first. We keep analytics data for up to 12 months.
Links to the App Store take you to Apple, whose own privacy policy applies there.
Change your choice
Use the button below, or “Cookie settings” at the bottom of any page. You can also clear cookies and site data in your browser settings.
